Workers for the city covered a statue of Edward Cornwallis with a black cloth ahead of a protest that aimed to tear the statue down. The crowd gathered for the ‘Removing Cornwallis’ protest was told by city workers that the statue would be covered in a shroud as a sign of good faith. The cover was taken off the statue a few hours later. Edward Cornwallis founded Halifax in 1749 and later put a bounty on the scalps of Mi-kmaq.
