Apology for Cornwallis Park incident

The commander of the Royal Canadian Navy on the East Coast has apologized to the Mi’kmaw community for that confrontation at a ceremony at Cornwallis Park in Halifax on the weekend.

Five men, identifying themselves as member of the Proud Boys, a right-wing group whose members disrupted the ceremony saying they will no longer apologize for creating a modern world.

Rear Admiral John Newton says the group crossed the line by disclosing their personal ideology in public, contrary to the Forces’ ethics and policies. Chief of Defence Staff General Jonathan Vance calls the incident deplorable, adding the men have been suspended from duty while a military investigation is underway.
