Schools will acknowledge Mi’Kma’ki

There will be an announcements every morning in schools starting in the next school year acknowledging that the school sits on traditional Mi’kmaq land.

The School Board voted unanimously yesterday, National Aboriginal Day, to recognize the Mi’kmaq during morning announcements with a statement that reads “We acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki…which is the traditional ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq people”.
