Lumber rally

Hundreds of forestry workers held a rally at the Irving Pulp and Paper mill yesterday to urge the Trudeau government to negotiate a fair softwood lumber deal with Washington that protects Canadian jobs.

The Telegraph-Journal reports Jim Irving was one of those speaking to the crowd telling them they were living proof this about more than just sawmills and lumber…it’s about families.

The Trump administration is imposing countervailing duties on softwood lumber imports from Canada saying our wood is unfairly subsidized. Unifor organized four other rallies across the country to protest the duties which range up to 24%…although in the Irving Mill’s case it’s 3%.
