Old lighthouse destroyed by flames

One of the six old lighthouses on the St. John River was destroyed by flames yesterday.

Fire crews had to hike a couple of kilometres through the woods hauling their gear before they could start fighting the flames in the Swift Point Lighthouse, also known as the Green Head lighthouse. Division chief Mark Wilson of the Saint John fire department said the light house, which was almost 150 years old, had collapsed by the time they got there. The cause is under investigation.
