The Burnside bog is being tested for contaminants after the city realised it used to be a landfill, according to the Chronicle Herald.
The landfill, off Akerley Blvd. was closed in the 1970s. An environmental project to filter toxic metals ended in 2009 and nobody has been monitoring it since. The manager of HRM’s solid waste department told the Chronicle Herald staff were not aware of the site being a landfill…and will be doing complete water testing to determine if there are any surface water quality concerns.
