Airline passenger Bill of Rights introduced

Transportation Minister Marc Garneau says his new passenger bill of rights will ensure Canadians will never be violently forced off an airline flight in this country.

Garneau introduced the bill yesterday in the wake of the shocking video of a passenger being violently removed from an United Airlines flight in Chicago because of overbooking. Garneau said there will be minimum levels of compensation for people who voluntarily agree to be bumped from a flight.

The bill also introduces new foreign ownership limits for airlines, and requires railways to install voice and video recorders in locomotives.
