Nursing home deaths

Six elderly residents of a Halifax nursing home have died in the last two weeks from a respitatory illness.

In all, 29 people at the Arborstone Enhanced Care facility on Purcells Cove Road have been diagnosed with Respiratory Syncytial Virus which is normally a mild virus causing cold-like symptoms, but for the elderly it can be fatal, according to CBC.

Arborstone reported the cases to the Health Authority and is putting measures in place to curb its spread.  Testing is also being done to see if there are other respiratory illnesses spreading in the nursing home that may have contributed to the deaths.
