Former First Nations Chief freed on bail while appealing

A former chief of the Esgenoopetit First Nation, Wilbur Dedam, has been released from prison as he appeals his conviction on sex charges.

Dedam was sentenced to 9 years in prison after a jury found him guilty on charges of sexually assaulting three girls in the ’70s and ’80’s in the community. He was released on strict conditions and will live at his home.
