Differing views on cost of library move

Consultants say moving the Moncton library from the Blue Cross Centre to the former Moncton High School building could be done…but it’d be costly.

The Times and Transcript reports City Council got a report at its meeting yesterday that said moving the library would cost about $4.6 million.

MH Renaissance has proposed turning the old high school into a $22 million arts and culture centre with the library as its anchor tenant. MH representatives say their cost estimate to move the library is about half that of the consultant’s because it’s more detailed…but they are happy with the rest of the report which says the library would fit on the ground floor.

Library board chairwoman, Diane Ross, however, says the move is not practical.
