According to the Union of Municipalities of New Brunswick, the financial condition of Sussex remains in excellent shape.
Part of the reason is that municipalities are not given the same flexibility to spend much beyond their means.
A recent audit says the debt-ratio in Sussex was among the best in the province in 2016, despite the closure of the Picadilly Mine.
The province added that Sussex owes about one-quarter of what it is allowed, debt-wise.
Hampton is also in good financial shape.
