New Trial Ordered in Saint John Murder

The Court of Appeal has over turned the second degree murder conviction of a Saint John man and ordered a new trial. Frederick Cormier Jr. was found guilty in the stabbing death of Spencer Eldridge in 2014 in a fight outside a house on Lancaster Avenue. He was sentenced to life with no parole for 10 years. The Court of Appeal set aside the conviction but hasn’t released reasons yet. Cormier claimed self-defence although his lawyer didn’t call any witnesses.
