Disease tracking

The province says a new electronic system should track outbreaks of communicable diseases better.

Until now outbreaks of disease like measles, mumps and the flu have been tracked on paper. Now Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says the computerized system will help them investigate disease outbreaks faster and keep track of who has been vaccinated, while also notifying people who might be at risk. The province is spending $7.1 million dollars over the next two years to bring the program online.
