Ellen’s Law Tabled in Legislature

The Gallant Government has tabled an amendment to the Motor Vehicle Act to introduce Ellen’s Law. It calls for vehicles to leave at least one metre of space while passing a bicycle. It will also allow drivers to cross the solid centre line to pass cyclists when it is safe to do so. The fine will be $172 and three points on your license. The amendment comes after the death of competitive cyclist Ellen Watters outside Sussex just before Christmas.
