Canada’s population continues to shift and Stats-Can says half of the population could be made up of immigrants or the children of immigrants within 20 years, and 30 per cent by 2036.
In 1871, the first census of the population showed 16 per cent of the 3.7-million people in Canada were born abroad; with the British, Americans; and Germans leading the pack.
