Drones

Halifax firefighters are about to add a couple of high tech tools to their toolbox.

Global Halifax reports 20 firefighters are currently going through a pilot project to learn how to operate unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as drones.

The city’s fire department recently purchased two drones and thermal cameras, with the total cost of equipment and training pegged at around 60-thousand dollars.

Divisional Commander Chuck Bezanson says the drones will help with things like gas leaks, explaining that the thermal cameras will be able to show where gas is evaporating.
