A necropsy has been completed on an eighth endangered right whale found dead in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The necropsy was completed yesterday on Miscou Island, NB. The initial findings have not yet been released and it’s expected to take weeks for tissues samples to be analyzed. Necropsies on the other whales found dead over the past month have revealed evidence of blunt force trauma from boat strikes and signs of fishing gear entanglement. The alarming number of dead endangered right whales has also prompted the closure of the northern New Brunswick snow Crab fishery as a precaution.
