Nova Scotia’s highest court has dismissed a bid for an appeal by woman convicted in the murder of university student from Labrador.
Victoria Henneberry had asked the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal for a new trial on grounds that she panicked when she pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of 26-year-old Loretta Saunders in 2014.
Justice Cindy Bourgeois told Henneberry her appeal rested on proving she was not “cognitively intact” when she pleaded guilty in Halifax.
The three-judge panel quickly decided that the accused had failed to do so, and Henneberry was returned to prison, where she will not be able to apply for parole for another seven years.
