Lt.-Gov. on literacy
Lt.-Governor Jocelyne Roy Vienneau says New Brunswickers have to do more to correct what the she calls the province’s tragic flaw…low literacy rates, according to the Telegraph-Journal.
Roy Vienneau hosted a reception at Government House yesterday to thank volunteers in the ELF program by Elementary Literacy Inc. It helps children in Grade 2 improve reading skills.
She thanked the volunteers and said more New Brunswickers have to get involved in improving literacy skills pointing out 60% of anglophones and 68% of francophones have difficulty reading printed material like labels on medicine bottles. She also said low-skilled and low-literacy people will find it harder to maintain a place in the economy.
