CBRM suicide rates

There’s been an increase in suicides in Cape Breton.

Todd Vassallo, a psychotherapist in Sydney told the Cape Breton Post there was a 70% spike in suicides from 2014-15; and he believes the numbers will be comprable this year.  Vassallo says this brings up questions about the state of mental health and addictions programs on The Island.

CBRM councilor collapses

Yesterday’s meeting of CBRM Council was adjourned suddenly when one of the councillors collapsed.

Steve Gillespie fell from his chair.  Paramedics were called and he was concious when he was taken to hospital.  No word on his condition.

The meeting, which was discussing port development contracts among other things, was adjourned until Monday.
