Gay rights activist Brent Hawkes has been acquitted of sex charges. The Toronto pastor was accused of incidents in the 70s when he taught in The Valley, but a judge gave a not guilty verdict for gross indecency and indecent assault. Alan Tufts said the complainant gave vivid testimony but it was contradicted by other evidence, and he didn’t believe Hawkes entirely; but the Crown could not prove the case.

Newspaper negotiations
The Halifax Typographical Union and Chronicle Herald have withdrawn unfair labour complaints. Union President Ingrid Bulmer says they got what they wanted when the paper backed off its bargaining position. The sides are coming together again next week in hopes of ending the strike, which has gone on for over a year.
