Teachers to Vote on New Deal This Week

Parents will find out this week if the labour war between teachers and the province will continue. The Nova Scotia Teachers Union is set to vote Wednesday on a third tentative deal reached between the Union’s leadership and the province. Teachers voted down the two previous agreements. Despite a war of words and a return to work -to-rule since the third tentative deal was reached – the NSTU is still recommending teachers accept it.

DFO Investigating Shooting of Seals in Cape Breton

An investigation is underway into the shooting deaths of a five seals on a beach in Little Judique earlier this week. The Cape Breton Post is reporting that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans received a report of the deal seals on Wednesday. DFO officers have since removed the carcasses and collected evidence. The seal shootings followed an incident earlier this week when three Yarmouth County Fishermen were charged for mistreating and seal on board their vessel. A video of the incident surfaced online. DFO says that seal also died.
