Province to Impose Contract on Teachers

The Nova Scotia government will begin imposing a contract on teachers tomorrow. Premier Stephen McNeil has called the legislature back for an 8pm Monday night session to legislate a contract on the province’s 9,300 teachers. In a release last night, McNeill says the decision was made after ‘considerable soul searching’. However, McNeil says the labour disruption needs to end ‘so the lives of students and parents can return to normal’. The move follows a vote on Thursday that saw teachers reject a third tentative deal that had been reached between their union and the province.
