CBRM pay debate on hold

CBRM Councillors have put off debate on giving themselves a raise, according to the CBC.

Mayor Cecil Clarke says they’ll be asking the provincial government for some guildelines.  Clarke made $107,087 in the 2015/16 fiscal year.  Councillor made $38,693. The councillors are also entitled to $7,280 a year in travel expenses, no matter the size of their district or distance from city hall.  Mileage is one of the issues the mayor is interested in.  Clarke also says the workload on councillors is almost the same as for MLAs who make a lot more money.

Jail time for a Sydney Mines man

A Sydney Mines man has been sentenced to 14 months in jail for three thefts.

28 year old Edward Joseph Thomas Whitty-LeBlanc stole $870 from a restaurant, a $140 jacket from a store and a $4,000 ring from a jewelry store.  The judge also gave him credit for the 90 days he has served in custody on remand whoch reduces his jailtime to 11 months.
