Funding Announced for Cheticamp Cultural Centre

Federal and provincial funding was announced on Saturday for a new cultural and community hub in Cheticamp. The community has been without a large community space since the Acadian Centre closed six years ago. On Saturday the province announced 400-thousand-dollars in funding while the Federal government pledged 500-thousand for a new community hub to be known at the Cultural Quarter. Inverness County is also providing 150-thousand-dollars towards the project. The Cultural Quarter will include a range of facilities including large rental spaces, an arts academy, outdoor theatre and classroom, and a year round cafe and farmers market.

Man Accused of Sex Crimes Taken from Sydney Court by Ambulance

A man charged with sex offenses was taken from a Sydney court room by ambulance on Friday. 50-year-old Trevor Patrick Brewer of Tarbot was in court facing charges of exposing himself, committing an indecent act and invitation to sexual touching involving a person under the age of 16. The Cape breton Post reports that shortly after arriving in court on Friday Brewer grasped his chest and fell to the floor. He was taken to hospital but remains in custody. Brewer will return to court on April 13th to enter a plea.
