First-degree murder charge laid in Gardiner Mines death

As the result of the investigation into yesterday’s suspicious death, Cape Breton Regional Police have charged a 40-year-old Gardiner Mines man with First Degree Murder.

Richard Wayne MacNeil will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today.

Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call for assistance on O’Brien Street at approximately 12:00 PM; upon arrival, they located a deceased female inside and arrested MacNeil who was also inside.

The accused and the victim, a 33-year-old female, are known to each other; her name will not be released at this time, pending notification of family.

Grand Lake Road at Yolanda Drive lights

Traffic lights are coming for a busy intersection in Sydney.

The province says the lights and turning lanes are coming for Grand Lake Road at Yolanda Drive near ther Kytes Hill subdivision where there have been a number of accidents over the years, including fatalities.
