CBRM economic plans

CBRM Council wants to get involved in economic development issues because it doesn’t think anyone else is doing enough.

Under provincial legislation municipalities don’t really have much say in economic development.  But the Post reports Councillor Darren Brucksschwaiger thinks it’s up to CBRM to deal with it by default because nobody is left doing anything.

Council plans to hold standalone general committee meetings to deal with economic development and the planning strategy review on the first Wednesday of each month.  It wants to see representatives from Destination Cape Breton, Innovacorp, Business Cape Breton, the Cape Breton Partnership and others appear before the committee and discuss their strategies.

Glace Bay charges

A 40 year old Glace Bay man is due in court today for a bail hearing after being charged with breaching previous release conditions.

David Joseph Goyan is also charged with assaulting a police officer and a weapons charge after an incident last week.  He’s also due in court in June to enter a plea on an unrelated drug offence, according to the Cape Breton Post.
