The Strait Regional School board wants to keep three schools in Inverness County open, according to the CBC.

The board has voted to tell the Education Department it wants to keep the Bayview Education Centre in Port Hood and Dalbrae Academy in Mabou after the P-3 leases expire.  It also wants the Whycocomagh Education Centre to remain open.  Enrollments in the schools have been cut in half in recent years but the school options committee wants the classes to remain and options for renting out the space outside of school hours are explored.

Police are asking for your help in solving a number of arsons in recent months.

Spokesperson Desiree Vassallo told the CBC that officers are looking for new information because they’ve exhausted all existing leads.  Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers.

Two of the fires were in the same house on West Avenue in New Waterford within several hoursof each other March 21.  There was also a suspicious blaze at a house at April 17 at 782 Point Aconi Road.  A fishing boat also burned on Alder Point Road February 21.
