New Waterford shooting

A New Waterford woman is afraid to be in her home after someone took shots at it Saturday.

Ebony Hayward had been visiting a friend and returned to her home on King Street around 7:00 in the evening to find bullet holes in her front picture window.  She told the Cape Breton Post she called police and an officer came out to take a statement.

Hayward believes it was someone known to her but doesn’t think police are taking the incident seriously enough.  While the officer was in her house they saw the person she believes is responsible driving back and forth on the street.

Police confirm they are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call them or Crimestoppers.

Glace Bay drug case

A Glace Bay man has been sentenced to jail while drug charges against two other men have been dropped.

Police were called to a house on Oceancrest Drive in February after reports of a man with a gun.  They found a weapon duyring a search of the home, and also drugs.

23 year old Jordan William Oakes pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and was sentenced to two years less a day.  He’s been in custody on remand since the incident.

Drug charges were then dropped against 24 year old Michael Norman Knox and 27 year old Corey James DeCoste.  DeCoste did plead guilty to a weapons charge and will be sentenced August 28.
