Cabot Links Golf Course deal

A second path giving the public access to Inverness Beach at the Cabot Links Golf Course is coming this summer.

The only access now is at the south end of the beach, but Cabot Links promised four years ago to build a public path at the north end.  That has been held up because of a covenant on the land which had been owned by the MacLeod family which owns a nearby business.  It donated the land for a community golf course, which never happened, and Cabot Links then bought the land.

The golf course has now reached an agreement with the MacLeod family and will cut a new path to the water on the north end of the beach near Inverness Beach Village.

CBRM summer jobs

There was a lot of demand, so federal taxpayer’s are providing more funding for summer jobs for students on the Island this summer.

Sydney-Victoria MP Mark Eyking said an extra $318,000 will be available in his riding for non-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses to create summer jobs for full-time students.  This will mean an additional 140 jobs just in his riding, 85 of them with CBRM.

Mayor Cecil Clarke said prior to this additional funding the municipality only had enough to hire six students.
