The Atlantic Institute for Market Studies, AIMS; has released a public policy study regarding provincial government employment in Atlantic Canada.
AIMS says that Nova Scotia, PEI; and Newfoundland and Labrador, employ a public service well above the national average in relation to population.
New Brunswick has fewer public servants per capita.
Public servants in Atlantic Canada get paid an average of just under 69 thousand dollars per year; much higher than those in the private sector, who earn just under 47 thousand; on average.
AIMS feels that cutting the number of public servants would save taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.
