NS dog cruelty case

The SPCA says one of seven malnourished dogs seized from behind an apartment building in Tantallon has died.

The rest are recovering.

Four dogs were being kept in small kennels inside a van and three more were later found in similar conditions.

The dogs were left to lie in their own urine and feces, and one had an untreated broken leg and will likely lose the limb.

The SPCA adds that it’s not the first time its dealt with the owner and charges may be pending.

An apology from the NS Grits

Premier Stephen McNeil will meet with Mi’kmaq chiefs today to apologize.

A government legal brief in connection with the Alton gas project implied members of a First Nation band were a “conquered people.”

McNeil said he will apologize saying the brief didn’t reflect who he is or the belief of his government.

The brief said the Crown’s obligation to consult the Indian Brook band extended only to “unconquered people.”
