Norton Legion Vimy tree

The Norton Legion now has an oak tree sapling commemorating the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

The sapling is grafted from an oak tree growing in Ottawa that came from an acorn picked up by a Canadian soldier following the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Earlier, the Sussex Legion got its own sapling; and Hampton has also requested one.

Sussex and NB HOF announcements

Johnny Quigg and Ellen Watters are this year’s inductees into the Greater Sussex Sports Wall of Fame.

The late Quigg was a speed skater born in Sussex.

Ellen Watters from Apohoqui was a well known cyclist with close ties to the Sussex area.

Watters died after being hit by a car during a training bike ride near Sussex last December.

Over in Quispamsis, recently; the list of inductees to the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame grew by half a dozen at the Q-Plex arena.

That list included the Flood Brothers rowing duo, a group of curlers known as Team Hanlon; runner Paula Keating, speed skater Jeffrey Scholten; golfer Kim Adams Tattrie, and late multi-sport athlete and referee Ernest Quigley.
