Safe Harbour, a shelter for homeless teens on Broad Street, is hiring new staff before it reopens on March 1st. There will be four full-time positions and several part-time jobs, according to the Telegraph-Journal.
The shelter was shut down last January. Now a Fredericton-based non-profit organization is helping to reopen it. The Anglican Diocese of Fredericton donated $643,000 to buy the property.
Property taxes are going up this year in St. George.
The Telegraph-Journal reports Town Council has approved an increase of 4.5 cents in the rate bringing it to $1.38 per $100 of assessment. It’s also adding $10 a year to the flat rate for utilities.
The increase in the tax rate is to make up for the cost of buying a new fire truck along with a droip in revenues from local service districts for fire protection. The cost of policing by the RCMP is also up.
