Storm aftermath

NB Power is calling this the second worst storm it’s had to deal with, after Arthur a couple of years ago. It knocked out electricity to 195,000 customers.

At the peak yesterday, over 130,000 of NB Power’s customers lost their lights. There were still over 80,000 in the dark this morning mainly in the southeastern part of the province. The utility is hoping to have power back on for most tonight but it could be awhile longer before everybody is back on the grid, especially the more isolated outages.

Warming centres have been set up in the affected areas. Check the government website for locations and times.

Mother murderer sentenced

A St. Stephen area man who murdered his mother has been sentenced to life with no parole for 14 years.

36 year old Matthew Linus Tucker shot his mother Dorothy in the head with a shotgun in her Oak Bay home two years ago and then buried her body in the woods. A jury found him guilty in November. Tucker insists he doesn’t remember doing it.

His uncle Linus Tucker doesn’t think the 14 years is enough. He doesn’t think his nephew should get out of prison ever.
