Red Cross Offering Financial Assistance to Ice Storm Victims

Those hurting financially from the the Ice Storm now qualify for additional help from the Canadian Red Cross. The Red Cross says they’re offering financial assistance meant to supplement the province’s Disaster Financial Assistance program. Those in need can call the Red Cross and register for financial aid by phone. Those who qualify will receive electronic money transfers or pre-paid cash cards and vouchers.

Hundreds Still Without Power for 12th Day

Power crews continue to make progress but hundreds of homes on the Acadian Peninsula are enduring the 12th straight day in the dark. Crews had cut the number of homes without power in half overnight Friday to roughly 15-hundred. By early Saturday evening that number was reduced to 212 smaller outages affecting just under 800 customers. As of this morning there were still 112 smaller outages being reported affecting 536 customers. New Brunswick Power hopes to have the last of the outages repaired by Tuesday night.
