By-law changes in Quispamsis

Town Council has passed a new animal control by-law for Quispamsis.

It will put more responsibility on pet owners to avoid the unneccesary euthenization of animals.

Councillors also changed another by-law to allow for a car wash on Pettingill Road which was opposed by area residents concerned about their well water and property values. Some changes were made to the proposal which some councillors argued could spur more development alongĀ  Pettingill.

Train derailment

There was a train derailment yesterday on the east side during snow-clearing and shunting operations.

Five cars of a Southern Railway train went off the tracks along Rothesay Avenue behind Signature Auto.

Railway spokeswoman Mary Keith told the Telegraph-Journal there was no safety risk to the public. There was no spill, no leak, no injuries. A hazmat team was deployed and the freight was transferred from the derailed cars.
