Major theft ring busted

A Memramcook man is among 16 people arrested in a large theft ring responsible for millions of dollars in stolen goods…from lobsters to luxury cars.

Raids were conducted yesterday in Memramcook and various Quebec locations.  Police recovered over $5 million worth of stolen property as they dismantled a theft ring that targeted cargo trucks for whatever goods they were carrying. The group was committing several thefts a week.

Canada’s last destroyer is retiring

HMCS Athabaskan made its final circuit of Halifax harbour yesterday with former crew and others aboard. It fired its big forward gun for the last night. There’ll be a final paying off ceremony tomorrow at the Dockyard.

The Athabaskan is the last of the Navy’s destroyers, built in the early 1070s it had many high profile missions including the Pwersian Gulf War in 1990-91 and helping with recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina on the U-S Gulf Coast.
