Referendum before voting age will be lowered

The minister in charge of electoral reform, Victor Boudreau, says the voting age will not be lowered unless it’s approved in a referendum first. A special commission recommended lowering the age to 16 from 18…but Boudreau says a referendum will be held first during the next municipal elections in May of 2020.

Gov’t won’t change election date yet

The next provincial election will be held September 24th, 2018.  The Commission on Electoral Reform recommended moving the date to the third Monday in October, but the Gallant government says changing it now would be unfair.  The move will be considered after the next election.
