Former synagogue will be saved

Looks like the former synagogue at Wellington Row and Carleton will remain standing. Cooke Aquaculture has bought the building and will be turning it into high end office space.

The building was decommissioned as a house of worship in 2008 and taken over by the city. It had trouble finding someone to develop it for several years and it was facing demolition…but now Cooke has stepped up to save the historic building.

It was built initialy as a Calvinist church in 1871 and the Jewish community took it over in 1919.
