Lengthy sentence for abusing woman then abducting her

A man who abused a woman and then kidnapped her to prevent her from testifying against him is going to prison for a long time.

The judge gave John Philip “BJ” Trecartin 8 years and 7 months…even longer than the Crown’s recommendation. The judge also ordered he serve at least half the sentence before being eligible for parole, because of the flagrant affront to the justice system by his actions.

Road rage sentence

A Saint John man got time served and a year-long suspension of his drivers licence for hitting a pedestrian with his SUV in a road rage case.

69 year old Gene Williams admitted to the February 23rd incident, a video of which went viral on social media.  The victim suffered a dislocated shoulder when Williams hit him in a parking lot on the east side after following him all the way from a doctor’s office on the west side.

Williams also must pay $1,000 in victim fine surcharges. He had been held in custody on remand since February 24th.
