RCMP on trial

The RCMP goes to court in Moncton today on the other side of the courtroom from normal.

The force is facing four charges under the Labour Code in connection withe killings of Constables Doug Larche, Dave Ross and Fabrice Gevaudan three years ago. The force is charged with not providing proper equipment and training. The trial is expected to last into June.

The wife of one of the three Mounties says the trial will be emotional, but necessary. Nadine Larche says change in the RCMP is needed before tragic history repeats itself.

Parkland or development?

Area residents celebrated Earth Day in Tucker Park hoping they will continue to be able to do so.  They are concerned about the city’s plans to sell off land in the park and in Rockwood Park for housing development.

Joan Pearce told CBC it was Earth Day Saturday, so people are supposed to be appreciating our natural resources. Another resident Carol Ring said the city should look somewhere other than parks for development and growth.
