Property assessments

The number of appeals of property taxes has now soared over 15,000…and Service New Brunswick is overwhelmed. It admits it won’t be able to reviews all of them probably until early next year.

Premier Brian Gallant acknowledged at the legislature yesterday the continuing property assessment controversy has shaken public faith in how assessments and taxes are calculated.

Several women appointed to the bench

The New Brunswick provincial court will soon have gender parity among full-time judges.

Current Moncton-based Jolène Richard will take over as the court’s chief judge in June…first woman in that position.

Five new judges were named:  Kelly Ann Winchester in Saint John, Lucie Mathurin in Moncton, Joanne Durette in Bathurst, Johanne-Marguerite Landry in Caraquet and Natalie LeBlanc in Miramichi.
