Rothesay taxes

Rothesay Town Council has increased the tax rate for the third straight year.

The tax rate will increase by one cent to $1.22 per $100 of assessed valued. Sewer rates also increase. Council passed a $7.20 million utility capital budget and a $5.148 million capital budget.

Mayor Nancy Grant said earlier the town was facing slow growth and rising expenses.

NEB gets three new members to study Energy East

Ottawa has appointed three new members to the National Energy Board as it prepares to reopen hearings into the Energy East Pipeline.

One of the new members is Don Ferguson. Ferguson, now at UNB, was a longtime civil servant and former deputy minister under the Shawn Graham government. Marc Paquin of Quebec and Carole Malo of Ontario have also been appointed.

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Donald Arseneault told the Telegraph-Journal the Energy East review process is due to restart early in the New Year.
