Closing arguments at RCMP trial

Lawyers begin making their closing arguments today in the RCMP’s Labour Code trial.

The RCMP faces four charges stemming from the 2014 shootings that left three officers dead and two wounded.

Numerous witnesses have testified if the Mounties had been equipped with carbine rifles and had been properly trained in using body armour, the outcome may have been different that terrible night.

The judge has indicated it’ll take him some time to reach a decision in the complicated case.

New Tory leader touring Maritimes

The new Conservative leader Andrew Scheer has been touring the Maritimes over the Canada Day weekend. He, his wife and five children started off in New Brunswick, then PEI and are now in Nova Scotia.

Scheer told the Chronicle Herald he recognizes the Conservatives have a lot of rebuilding to do in Atlantic Canada but he’s up to the challenge. He says he’s here to promote Tory policies and how they would help the Maritime economies but also to learn.
