About 200 brave people took the annual Polar bear Dip at Mispec Beach yesterday morning. The Telegraph-Journal reports young and old alikeĀ took off their parkas, stripped down to bathing suits, and ran into the water to the cheers of onlookers. Then raced right back out and grabbed towels, most with big grins on their faces.

New Brunswick’s New Year’s baby
The first baby born in the province for Canada’s 150th birthday year was in Miramichi.
Douglas John Pilon-Brown was born at 2:23am yesterday morning to Amanda Quinn and Rodney Pilon-Brown at Miramichi Regional Hospital.
The first baby in Canada was reportedly born at one second after midnight in Toronto, Eastern Standard Time…although there was one in Halifax and one minute past midnight…Atlantic time.
