Heroes rescue man from burning car

Passers-by rescued a man from a burning car in Saint John Tuesday night. CBC reports the car hit a cement pillar of the overpass on the westbound highway near the Lorneville exit.

Two former fire fighters, Troy Morton from St. George and Shane Watson, stopped to help along with off-duty Kennebecasis Valley police officer Constable Corey McAllister.

The driver suffered a severe broken leg and didn’t want to be moved…but then the tires started to burn. They dragged him away from the car which burst into flames 10-20 seconds later.

Sentencing in child exploitation case

A former teacher and church youth group leader in the Kennebecasis Valley and Sussex areas is going to prison for three and a half years.

The Telegraph-Journal reports 34 year old Ryan Hachey of Rothesay was sentenced yesterday by Judge Thomas Christie who called his crimes an “affront to decency on so many levels”.

Hachey pleaded guilty in November to two counts of sexual exploitation dating back nearly 10 years involving two youths.
