The Greater Saint John Field House project has more money. Ottawa and the province have committed just over $6 million each for the massive project at Exhibition Park. The City has also committed $4.2 million over three years.

The field house will feature two indoor turf fields, a 200-metre indoor track, possibly two rinks and other facilities. Construction is expected to start late this year on McAllister Drive and be open in the fall of 2019.

Friends of Rockwood Park made their pitch to the city’s Growth Committee yesterday to prevent development of two parcels of parkland.

Joan Pearce told CBC the mayor assured them no decisions had been made. But while Mayor Darling said their presentation would be taken under consideration before any decisions are made, he also says the city has heard from others about high taxes who want growth. He said council is struggling to find a balance.
