Frank Magazine

A judge in Halifax has dismissed charges against a magazine writer accused of breaching a publication ban.

Andrew Douglas, writer for the satire and gossip magazine Frank, was charged shortly after writing a story about the murder of Truro police officer Catherine Campbell.

Police say the story broke the ban.

Douglas claimed the story was researched, written and published before the ban was in place.

Teacher’s Strike

Nova Scotia Opposition Tory Leader Jamie Baillie says there is no downside for the government to accept mediation in a contract dispute with public school teachers.

Baillie is also questioning the premier’s assertion that more money for teachers would have to come from another part of the budget.

Premier Stephen McNeil expressed frustration in the legislature yesterday after teachers twice rejected contract offers that had been recommended by the union’s executive.

He said teachers have one of the best pension plans around, generous health benefits, and accumulate 195 sick days over their career.
