Another fracking roadblock

The Gallant Government plans to make it even harder for companies that want to frack for natural gas.

Environment Minister Serge Rousselle says disposing of hydraulic wastewater in municipal systems poses an unacceptable risk to the environment and to the systems. So amendments to the Clean Environment Act will ensure that wastewater from fracking in New Brunswick or even from other jurisdictions doesn’t end up being disposed of in Municipal wastewater systems.

Solar-powered conservation area

The Nature Conservancy of Canada says it’s already seeing the benefits of installing four solar panels at the Johnson’s Mills Shorebird Reserve and Interpretive Centre near Moncton.

The panels were installed last May with the help of Fundy Solar and E-O-S Eco Energy. Conservancy spokesman Andrew Holland says the first tonne of carbon offsets has been counted and the power generated will go back through the power grid for credits by N-B Power. Holland says the change was done as a part of renovations to the centre.
